Well as what i have read on Classic Car magazine couple of years back, the W115 and W114 bodies were conjured up based on the characteristics of the W108 body style, which dated from 1965. The W115 and W114 share a similar appearance and unibody construction and were designed to use a number of four and six cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Planning began in 1966 and production began in September 1967. The original W115 line-up (any four cylinder Mercedes-Benz from this era is a W115) consisted of the 200, 220, 200D and 220D models.

The W114 body appeared at the same time as the W115 in late 1967. The original line-up consisted of the 230, 250 and 250C. A very rare option on 250 models was fuel injection, and some 250E and 250CE’s were produced. These vehicles were made all through the line-up, and in 1973 were joined by the 280 series. The 250C was superseded by the 280C, with the well known M110 engine. All W114 bodies use six cylinder engines and were produced until the end of August 1976. So if you find a W114 with a four cylinder, probable case would be the previous owner changed the engine to a four cylinder given that 6 cylinder has a heavy road tax in our country. You can check this detail when you view the registration card since you have to get approval from JPJ while changing the engine.

I had the same experience buying my first W123 Model which was a 250 whereby the original engine of 2.5 cc was downgraded to 2.3 cc by the owner and this was stamped on the Registration Card by the JPJ.

As with regards to buying a car that is 10% restored for RM15K is not advisable...i would give it below RM10K for a well maintained car with engine running soundly with minimal rust and faded paintwork. I would therefore say that if you're buying a Merc for RM15K it should be in a mint condition.

Hope this information helps guys! Cheers~
