Trip Report by Kathy Pace January 2000
Hi Kayes. We had a great time in Penang. We trekked around everywhere and saw all the local tourists spots. The people are so friendly and so helpful, I was amazed when it rained, within 20 mins I was rolling up my jeans and taking my shoes off to cross the road, it was no big deal as the climate is so warm even when it rains it is short lived. Living in England even on summer evenings it can still be chilly, but I found Penang to be the best climate I have ever experienced. It is hot in the day and night yet not at all uncomfortable. We ate all local foods and god knows what it was but it was cheap and tasted great. We even had a good curry opposite the Lone Pine I think. music Cd's & software is so cheap on Batu Ferringhi, and if you have a Playstation you could buy games for just over a £1 each. We hired a car and driver for 15RM (£2.50) per hour and he took us everywhere we wanted, Butterfly Farm, Penang Hill, buddah's etc. which was really good and saved us a lot of time and saved us getting lost.
The one place I was not impressed with was the Komtar, mice and cockroaches come to mind!! I loved the snorkelling and scuba diving at Langkawi it was a good day and makes me want to take a diving course know. It was so helpful reading your forums and I found your pages on where to go and what to do really helpful, the one place I did not get to was Chulia Street, maybe another time. I will still look in on your page as it is really good and if I can help anyone let me know. Thanks again for answering all my questions, it was really appreciated. bye for now Kathy
