Trip Report by Sandy May 2000

Well what fun looking certainly brings back fond memories. Yes we had a relaxing drink at 20 Leith Street and there is plenty to look at or have a wander around. We also found the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion opposite very interesting. The lady who gave us the guided tour certainly knew her " stuff ". Well worth a visit to anyone visiting or living in Penang. Be careful tho as it is not open all the time. Have fun and keep up the good work on this very informative site... regards to all from Sandy ( England )

IMHO the places to visit are : - Penang Hill. Snake Temple. Botanical Gardens. Youth Park including the path with the reflexology stones. Butterfly farm. Batik Factory. Weld Quay and the floating Village in Georgetown. Butterworth Ferry and Penang Bridge. Leith Street and the Mansion House. Go for a Drive Round the Island. Places to eat: Most of the Hotels have a good buffet on most nights. Happy Garden Restaurant at Batu Ferringhi. Gurney Drive and other Hawker stalls. Batu Maung the fish restaurant. City Bayview the revolving hotel. Interesting shopping places include: Chowastra Market. Midland Park. Night market at Batu Ferringhi. The new Gurney Plaza. There are as you know many temples but our favorite is the Kek Lok Si temple that Kayes has shown many pictures of. These are places we have enjoyed visiting before Happy Holidays and please keep us informed of your visits. Best wishes Sandy U.K.
