Thats my favourite too and I am fortunate to get this dish from a Malay restaurant, Kedah House, here in Vancouver believe it or not. The flavour is even better than the ones we used to get.
But Teoh, I guess you are staying abroad now because the stall you mentioned the second one at the entrance of the old Paramount Hotel on Northam Road (now Sultan Ahmad Shah) was relocated twenty years ago or so to CRC at the side entrance.Maybe they are still there but the old hawkers in Penang are dying like flies.At least the ones I am familiar with...I do not know of the one in Air Itam you mnetioned but they better be Indian Muslims because they have special ingredients which others cannot imitate. My Malay owners here told me how intricate and elaborate they put into the gravy, ground dried shrimps etc, sweet potato.
One sad story is last month, I brought the mee rebus and satay to a dying friend (of lung cancer- never smoked!)and he enjoyed that two days before his death. So yes this is one dish we can relish worthy of a last taste of goodies.
