I'm staying in my usual Evergreen Hotel soon, but the G Hotel a few minutes walk along Gurney Drive must be worth a try in future. I couldn't agree more that a major G Hotel plus point is that it's miles away from Batu Ferringhi.

To be polite, BF's beach is so so. And with the exception of the buffets at hotels such as Rasa Sayang, the food is nondescript at best. A whole decade after my first visit to Penang, BF's nightmarkets are still selling the same old same old stuff.

If you're travelling all that way, why not check out the real Penang instead of just its narrow beach and empty restaurants? Georgetown offers more food and sights than you can shake a stick at. Nowhere else in the whole of Asia offers such diversity. Batu Ferringi's shopping and eating prospects pail into insignifance when compared with Georgetown.
